THE VICINITY
CENTRAL ITALY
So many places to explore
Most of our guests use Rocca di Benano as a jumping-off point for exploring Central Italy. Benano is near Orvieto, right in the center of Italy, between Rome and Florence–roughly where Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio (Rome’s “county”) come together. The location makes it a great home base for terrific day trips. Rome and Florence are both under two hours by train from Orvieto, and it’s easy to reach, from the villa, some of the best hill towns in Tuscany (Siena, Pienza, Montalcino, or Montepulciano) or in Umbria (Todi, Deruta, or Assisi) by car. Northern Lazio is full of history and un-touristy treasures, including Lake Bolsena, site of the miracle celebrated around the world as Corpus Christi, and gorgeous palaces and gardens built as summer getaways by rich Romans of the Renaissance.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY
About the villa
It is a beautifully secluded place within close proximity to Orvieto and all the other wonderful places of interest to see. It is an easy drive to A-1 (freeway) which will take you all over Umbria with relative ease.

Benano is a charming village and our chats with the friendly locals were warm and memorable. Benano is also the perfect location for day trips to the surrounding area. The town of Orvieto is a quick 20 minute car ride and the train station made for an easy trip to Florence.

The location puts you 15 minutes from Orvieto and within a 2 hour drive of the northern parts of Tuscany and an easy train ride to Florence or Rome. Shopping is available within 10 minutes in nearby Viceno and at Pulicaro, an organic farm.

This was the perfect hamlet to serve as a jumping off point. Day trips to Florence and the villages that surround Rocca di Benano. Wonderful time with the locals that made us feel a part of the village for the week that we were in Benano.
